Emotional maturity leads to a healthy project ecosystem that supports and promotes the skills to be self-aware, socially aware, self-managed, and able to manage relationships, among other skills. In this research report we have identified and defined 50 skills that make up a catalog of emotions that can be improved through understanding and working on improving them. Emotional maturity is the group dynamics of emotional intelligence. Projects succeed and fail because of people doing or not doing the right work, at the right time, in the right way. It is both the strengths and frailties together of human nature—not intelligence, process, or tools—that will determine project resolution. Emotional maturity is the collection of basic behaviors of how people work together. In any group, organization, or company it is both the sum of their skills and the weakest link that determine the level of emotional maturity. This report was published in 2013.
